We are working on this site to develop it into a source of first class bookkeeping knowledge, both for computer software users, and those who still keep their business records manually!!

This site is for you.  To help you learn more about bookkeeping, to find answers to bookkeeping related questions, to get support for those expensive software packages in plain english without paying a penny for the information.  Please get involved as your questions are likely to be similar to many other people's questions - and remember - there is no such thing as a stupid question!!

Just remember - we are here to help make bookkeeping a pleasure, not a pain for you!!

These are just a few of the comments that I have recently heard about bookkeeping.........

  • I have just received a notice from the Tax Office that they are starting an investigation into my books and records. What am I going to do - they are in such a mess I am going to be in real trouble??

  • The VAT is due again next week. I really wished I had kept up with my promise last quarter to do the books each Sunday morning but the time just seems to slip through my fingers.

  • I can’t believe it is time to do the wages again. It only seems a week since last month!! I really can’t face pouring over those complex tax tables again but what is the option?

  • I understand my excel spreadsheets that make up my business records. OK they are a bit basic but I am sure that everything is there. Why does the bill from my accountant keep going up every year due to all the extra work they say they need to do?

  • Why isn’t there anywhere I can turn to for impartial advice??

  • How do I choose between all the dozens of bookkeeping packages - each of them claiming to be exactly what I need??

  • If I ask the accountant for advice on how to enter stuff, I get a bill a day or two later, even when they haven’t been at all helpful.

  • How do I find a good bookkeeper? The last three I set on promised they were experienced but then made such a mess of everything it cost a fortune for my accountant to sort out the mess each time. A good money spinner for him but a nightmare for me.

It is a fact that business owners, especially the small business owner, find their world a very lonely place. Their families often not understanding what drives them to do the things they do and constantly berating them for thinking about the business when others are relaxing and socializing. There are few places they can go to discuss their marketing ideas, their cash flow problems or their tax questions.

Some rely on their accountants for support but complain bitterly when the bill comes in, and the accountants are often not based in the real world anyway despite re-branding themselves as “consultants” these days.

Others rely on seeking out similar minded people at the pub or join a breakfast network but find advice often conflicting or being proffered by people who think they know it all but their business sank last month due to “bad luck” or is just limping along to retirement.

This site is run by a weird breed of people.... those who actually love bookkeeping!!! YES There are such nerds in the world - however hard that is to believe.

The internet has been trawled through by these nerds and no satisfactory solution to all the scenarios outlined above can be found. Yes there are millions of sites by experts in every aspect of life and business - except for bookkeeping. Why is that?? no-one likes it. Everybody does anything they can to put it off, to fudge the necessary bits, to avoid it at all costs for as long as humanly possible. Those that can do it jealously guard their hard won knowledge and don’t pass it on for the benefit of all.

In an effort to address your questions about bookkeeping, the Frequently Asked Questions pages have been established for your use completely free of charge. If your question isn’t there, why not ring one of the bookkeeping nerds with absolutely no obligation on 0800 047 0731 (UK freephone phone number) and speak to a bookkeeping wizard who will give you a swift, professional, accurate and full answer to any problem. There is little these nerds do not know about bookkeeping because they live and breathe it - but if you have a question they can’t answer immediately, they will research it and get back to you as soon as possible - again with no obligation of any kind.

The nerds will undertake to update the Frequently Asked Question page with each telephone consultation (no names or details will be revealed) so that everyone can benefit from advice given out.

Why would the nerds offer such a service without cost? simply because they want the world to love bookkeeping as much as they do.... and if that isn’t possible, at least to offer a place for business owners to come for an objective opinion on a bookkeeping situation.

You can also find Ray Stewart’s profile on Ecademy and contact him there if you prefer!

Your comments on a short survey about bookkeeping and related issues will be very much appreciated. You can find the survey here and should only take a couple of minutes.

Remember then.... phone the nerds on 0800 047 0731 with any bookkeeping related question for a free, full, professional and understandable answer.
